Album art for BSS
I recently finished album artwork for the new Broken Social Scene album Forgiveness Rock Record. The album drops on May 4th via Arts & Crafts.
You can download a free track from the album at BSS’s site.
Or at Pitchfork and read the latest update from the band.
Eggs
Life happens.
Shit happens.
And apparently eggs happen too.
Pffffft
I’ve started a new blog with Justin Peroff,
drummer of Broken Social Scene called pffffft.com (that’s 5 f’s)
I’ll be posting here still but probably not as much. Mostly this blog will be more for personal happenings and art and art shows, etc.
On that note, here’s the piece that I have in the
THIS / these friends show.

Message from THIS:
“So here we are, our first opening.
When came up with the idea to do THIS we had no idea how many people would get behind us and be excited about what we are trying to do. It’s been a really amazing experience already, and we haven’t even opened our doors yet.
Tomorrow night, Friday February 12th, is our inaugural event. A group show of our closest friends. We did this whole thing to showcase
our friends, the ones we already know and the ones we are going to meet.
Thats what THIS is all about.
In addition to our opening show Friday night, we will be opening our doors for the NELA art walk happening on Saturday, go to http://www.nelaart.com/ for more info.
We’ll also be having a little BBQ get together for the families and kids on Sunday the 14th from 12-3PM so all of our kids can meet and get to know each other.”

artQ – art & culture magazine
artQ contacted me recently and asked if they could post about me on their site. here’s what they had to say.
check out the artQ site HERE.
“looking at the works of Joe Mckay i was able to absorb different messages, by joining all his polaroids i created a hypothetical puzzle where the chips were specially marked to be deciphered and unified in unusual categories. I chose 4 of many polaroids which offered the same unintentional logic and this is what i came up with: OBJECTS THAT DON’T BELONG. I really enjoy the nature of these photographs specially the careless framing and the faded tones. Although these photographs stood out from McKay’s polaroid collection for not belonging (-refrence to a place or time) there were a few others that were superior in concept for just the opposite – Belonging- ex. surfer boys in wagon, homeless guy in the street, couch in a living room etc. Check out Joe Mckay’s work here“
aaron farley & co.
because LA is actually such a small town (which you know if you live here) you end up running into the same people quite often and under random circumstances.
i was pleasantly surprised to reconnect with Aaron Farley last week.
Aaron and a group of other artists, including my buddy Dan Monick, have joined forces to bring us THIS.
i’m really looking forward to seeing what these guys turn out in terms of shows.
(this is one of Aaron’s photos that i just had to post and keep in my folder of art by others)
metal spider webs video
black mold is an instrumental project by singer/songwriter chad van gaalen.
it’s pretty different from his other recordings.
after a couple listens, the album started to grow on me…
or at least some of the songs did… not all.
this is a video for metal spider webs, the first track off the album.
(chad does all his own artwork. pretty impressive)

Jean-Michel Basquiat (Dec 22, 1960 – Aug 12, 1988)
Today Jean-Michel Basquiat would have been 49 years old.
There’s no telling what he would be up to these days considering all that he accomplished by the time he died at the age of 27.
I love watching him in Downtown 81. The film had to
be overdubbed because the original audio was lost.
Saul Williams provided the voice for JMB’s character.
Basquiat’s band Gray has two songs on the soundtrack
and he offers up some poetry on Coati Mundi Hernandez’s
track Palabras Con Ritmo.
I also found out recently Basquiat
plays the DJ in Blondie’s Rapture video.
here’s his Wiki page if you want to read more.

never thought i’d see this

wolfie’s christmas by drawlings
as promised.
not sure if this constitutes as a xmas song but it has it in the title.
and i like it.
mixtape #7
most of these bands are new to me.
and i know nothing about them.
they all have a similar vibe though.
liars is an exception – i have all their albums & eps.
i’m looking forward to their upcoming record Sisterworld.
i can’t say i love all their releases but i am always drawn back to them as a band and listen again and again.
i do know of Blank Dogs. and again, like liars, i can’t say i like everything but i recently took another listen and this track caught me enough to buy it.
Hollow Tongues is a different vibe from the other songs but i still like it in the mix.
i don’t know anything about this band. stereogum had two songs for download.
i opted to only keep this one. i couldn’t make it through the other.
check out both tracks HERE.
my favorite in this find of new music hands down is Vibes. this song is just rediculous enough for me to love it. not rediculous in a bad way. just the lo-fi production and the lyrics – at least what i could make out. just made me laugh. plus the cover for this 7″ is pretty epic.
i might have to order it HERE just to have it.
none of this is exactly xmas music but i can’t say i really like xmas music.
i do have one song that i will post separately that is xmas-y and it’s pretty radical.
